British jeweller Alighieri has become the first jeweller to receive NEWGEN support from the British Fashion Council under the restructured sponsorship scheme. Three second year students studying for a Higher National Diploma in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery have been shortlisted as finalists in an annual design competition run by Birmingham-based casting house, 3D printing and bespoke manufacturing company Weston Beamor. The brief for this year’s Live Project was to design a halo engagement ring and a fitted wedding band to sit alongside it.  All designs had to include a primary gemstone or pearl, mounted in precious metal. Hampshire Open Studios (HOS) organise the annual art trail which provides opportunities for professional and amateur artists to show their work in diverse venues around the county and for residents and others in Hampshire to visit them. The group members provide a hub link, inspire each other and build a stronger local artist community. HOS aims to promote artists, art classes, groups and clubs, catering for Hampshire people, and to encourage more involvement in art, which may include demonstrations, talks and workshops. The British Fashion Council (BFC) Education Foundation is a registered charity that offers scholarships to talented young people to study BAs and MAs. The BFC has been supporting MA Scholarships since 1998 and the recipients are now seen as the next generation of talented designers.
